John Hudak
rabbit2

"rabbit2" is a test recording i did prior to a performance of 3 August 2003. I had been playing guitar a lot, and re-reading a book by Louis Sarno, called "Song from the Forest"; an account of his life with, and recording of, the BaBenzale Pygmies of Central Africa. I listened to some of Sarno's recordings, and I continue to be amazed at the affective simplicity of the melodies. This led to my listening to some of my recordings of Mississippi Delta Blues (slide/bottleneck styles), and noticing similarities to the pygmy music. I also had in mind a rabbit that I see when I run along a certain path near where I live:

to the side of a wooded path
a rabbit in a cage
i feel my years

"rabbit2" and the subsequent performance on 3 August, hold what inspiration I was able to extract from listening and thinking about the two musical sources and the image of the rabbit. The sounds were made by playing an electric guitar that was processed in real-time in my computer with a custom max/msp patch (www.cycling74.com).
